8th March 2008 Well below par Semi Final Pitch The NWTCA board of management would have to be disappointed with the below par semi final pitch at the competition "premier oval" at Devonport with only 200 runs scored for the loss of 15 wickets. The pitch favored the bowlers from ball one and made run scoring difficult with variable bounce and pace. In contrast 423 runs were scored at Ulverstone in the other semi final on a pitch described as "an absolute belter".

1st Grade Semi Final Scores
The Blues won the toss and elected to bat first on a variable paced, variable bounce pitch. Elliott Miller and makeshift opener Jye Gardam taking the score to 25 before Miller was caught in slips off Craig Boutcher. Gardam looked impresive with the bat and was joined by youngster Nick Pearce. Pearce was the mainstay of the Blues innings batting for 3 hours and was eventually dismissed for 25.
Pearce watched as there was a steady possesion of players heading back to the pavilion. Corey Gleeson (7), Andrew House (10), Jarrod Wilcox (1) and Mathew Allen (0). Adrian Dixon showed some flair scoring 14 in quick time but run out of partners with the blues loosing Manassa Walker (3) Zeke Gardam (3) and Todd Chatwin (2).

Craig Boutcher and Shane Crawford the main wicket takers, eventually bowling the blues out for 113 in the 54th over.

In reply, Sheffield struggled early losing both Nik Hizartzidis (1) and Gary Miles (0) off the bowling of Matthew Allen to be 2-8, and when Todd Chatwin knocked over Alex King for a duck, Sheffield was 3-16 and an upset was on the cards. Tim Irivine stood tall, and together with Richard Miles combined for a 59-run stand that took their team to the more comfortable position of 3-75.
Late afternoon Jye Gardam took the ball and took some gloss of the Mountaineers day as he removed both Irvine and Miles before stumps to leave them at 5-95. Quick wickets will be the order of the day for Wynyard if they are to pick up a win.

19th January 2008 Allan steps up for Blues
Wynyard opening bowler Matthew Allen ripped through the Orions batting line-up to give Wynyard an easy victory. Allen finished with the impressive figures of 6-34 off 21.1 overs to see Devonport dismissed for 145. The Blues went into day 2 without the services of Captain Darcy Bradmore and Zeke Gardam, who had both suffered injuries.
Wynyard vice captain Andrew House decided to bat again and when play was abandoned late afternoon due to rain, the Skilled Blues reached 1-30.

14th January 2008The Skilled Blues Batsmen posted a competitive 335. (See scoreboards) against Devonport highly fancied bowling attack at Devonport on Day 1. Captain Darcy Bradmore won the toss at the Devonport Oval and had no hesitation batting on a dry pitch.

Devonport gained the ascendency early though and had both Wynyard lost both openers cheaply, Alderson (10) and Miller (0) but the batting wqas steadied by a 54 run stand between Bradmore and Nick Pearce looked to have controlled things until Pearce was dismissed in the over before lunch that left the Blues at 3/72.

Soon after the interval Bradmore was dismissed for 20 but Andrew House looked to accelerate the run rate and together with Jarrod Willcox they shared in a 94-run stand before House was dismissed for an entertaining 73, which included eleven fours and two sixes. Jarrod Willcox also posted a half century until he was bowled and then the lower order chipped in with more handy runs with Corey Gleeson (29) and Matthew Allen (34) frustrating the bowlers before Jye Gardam finished the day with his own half century to put the Blues in a commanding position going into the second day's play next Saturday.
